This piece was inspired by Fourier Transforms, which is an advanced form of mathematics which deals with expressing things as a sum of waves. So it's kind of like the lines forming the faces are made by a set of waves that align on the two sides. And there's not just one wave, but lots and lots of waves that add together. And so I imagined what it would look like if the phase of those waves were to be shifted by some function in the middle of the picture.
